A large manufacturer decided to make large-scale changes to the way it ran its business, changing its manufacturing plant to an import and distribution centre.
The changes were significant, with the organisation looking to consolidate offices and streamline job functions. Both the manufacturing plants and the corporate operations were affected.
It was a move that was necessary to future-proof the organisation, but it would impact around 400 employees, from senior executives to junior staff.
The organisation partnered with Directioneering in a relationship that continues to this day. We provided outplacement services to support the changes required to convert the manufacturing facility into an import and distribution centre.
Although it was a challenging time, the organisation achieved its objective of looking after its employees.
The first thing we did was identify the issues the organisation was facing and find ways to make the outplacement process as simple as possible.
We spoke at length with the organisation’s planning committee on how to approach the task and provide services that would meet the needs of the organisation and its employees.
We helped with strategies to assist the company retain the employees it needed to keep the manufacturing plant operational until closure.
Respecting individual needs was an important consideration, with some employees having been in their positions for almost three decades. Impacted employees ranged in age from their 20s to their 60s, with over a third aged over 40.
We took each employee’s unique circumstances into account, working through options for both redeployment and career transition.
