As career strategy consultants, we believe that everyone has the right to a job which fulfils their potential; and enables them to lead rewarding and financially independent lives.
Sadly, this is not the case for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The statistics speak for themselves. Nearly 42.8% of young people are not engaged in either education or employment. Only 49.1% of working age have a job. And less than 1% of corporate leadership roles are held by First Nations people*.
First Nations people deserve better outcomes in so many other areas as well, including health, justice and cultural recognition.
We believe the proposed referendum is a once in a generation opportunity for us all to contribute to Australia’s ongoing reconciliation journey in building a more connected and inclusive Australia.
We have a long way to go. But the opportunity for change starts here.
